Try also adding some finely diced carrots to sautee with the onion, garlic, and capsicum. Gives you a little more vegetable matter, and a little sweetness, but make sure it's very finely diced (I usually use a peeler to make strips first, then dice those).

Hi again!

Thanks for responding! I visited the Russian store yesterday though it is rather small. I brought some Russian snacks and chocolates :) which i have not had since the last time i visted moscow (years ago!).

Anyway it is certainly a lovely small shop and the man on the til was friendly and helpful as well.
Oh and Bayswater is always a brilliant place to shop for food it has 2 new very large oriental stores as well as the organic food store and persian ones too :)

Thanks for sharing it with others!

I've been out of London for a while, but it was there this spring. It's on the West-side of the street, a bit North of the Queen's Ice Bowl. It's just a little shop, easy to miss if you aren't paying attention. The sign hangs over the street and says Калинка, I believe in red. I didn't find any other Russian stores in central London; there were some way out in the suburbs, and I drove past one way down Old Kent Road, but it looked boarded-up... Good luck finding something!

Hello,

I just came across this blog and it's brilliant!
Regarding a post you made ages ago on russian food. Does that Russian grocery store still exist in Baywswater??? I wish to purchase some Russian food although i haven't managed to find any stores which do. Can you suggest any more?

BTW i always go to Bayswater to shop for food but I have never noticed the Russian grocery store. Where abouts is it?

Thanks! :)

Em,

My totally absolute favouritest sandwich in the world ever is basil pesto on oen slice of ciabatta/baguette, sundried tomato pesto on the other (all ingredients the same, just replace basil with sundried tomatos), a slice or two extra of parmesan and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

Hm, that sounds really swish actually. And I am craving it right now.
